Life is a Game

Life is a game.

Life is an infinite game.

Life is an infinite game with rules.

Life is an infinite game with rules that change.

Life is an infinite game with rules that change due to conscious human participation.

The rules of the game of life have continuously changed, often for the better.

During the days of the Roman Empire, to lose the game meant to lose your head, thus ‘game over’ at the slightest mistake.

Christianity meant the near abolishment of slavery in Europe and changed the rules of conduct between people to be less severe.

Democracy changed the rules so that the poorest in society also had a voice.

Social democracy updated the rules so that losing your job or getting sick didn’t mean complete marginalisation.

The rules of the game of life have repeatedly changed to give people more chances.

Why should this stop now?

Life has not suddenly become a finite game with fixed rules.

We can still change the rules for the better.

The question is, how can the rules be made more fair and just?

How can we ensure people are given more chances when they lose?

How can we make relationships less brutal and more humane?

These are the ultimate questions we should ask ourselves.

Only those favoured by the status quo will say things cannot change.

Only the nihilists, the righteous, those afraid of losing their moral superiority will tell you to withdraw from the game.

The power to shape the future lies in OUR hands.

We should remain hopeful and proactive, striving to create a world where the rules are kinder and more inclusive.

Together, we can ensure that life remains an infinite game where everyone has the opportunity to thrive and no one is left behind.

Let us continue to play, to change the rules, and to make the game of life better for all.
