The concept for this ongoing photography project is simple; I ask a cross-section of people the question, ‘what is masculinity?’, requesting the participant write their answer on a notepad, which they show to me as I take a photograph.
In the spirit of parrhesia, I do not direct the participant’s response; the intention is to get them to share their most honest thoughts and opinions.
The effectiveness of the project lies in the simplicity of the task. It is a frozen moment in time that encourages the participants to think honestly about masculinity, men’s attributes and contribution to the modern world.
